On Sunday, August 18th, Dr. and Mrs. Lorenzo McCarthy celebrated 50 years as husband and wife. Family and friends attended church service at Ebenezer United Methodist Church where they originally married then stayed for the renewal of vows and reception given by their children. Family friend Pastor Debra Thompson performed the vow renewals.
Mrs. Anest (Schell) McCarthy is a Jacksonville native and the former 1965 “Miss Stanton.” Lorenzo (Mickey) mcCarthy, a Birmingham, AL native, met his bride while attending Fisk University. Mickey, proposed to Anest at the annual Fla-Jax Christmas party. They were married at Ebenezer when it was off Ashley Street the following August. After Mickey completed Meharry Medical School, the young couple moved to Jacksonville to start his residency in Family Practice Medicine and later joined his father in-law, Dr. Warren Wade Schell’s, II, medical practice and Anest began her thirty plus years in the Duval County School System as an educator. The McCarthy’s are proud parents of three, Lorenzo, Monique, and Loren and still
