U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown brought one of her famous friends to town to inspire and encourage Jacksonville voters to come to the polls. Jackson attended a “GOTV” rally Saturday, September 23rd at Gateway Mall with free food, entertainment and local politicos . The rally continued on Sunday for the “Souls to the Polls” rally. On Tuesday, August 26th, voters went to the polls to deliver verdicts on the Governors race, state attorney and Duval County school board positions which yielded a less than 20 percent voter turnout in Duval County. Congresswoman Brown and Reverend Jackson also reminded the crowd that this year marks the 50th anniversary of passage of the Civil Rights Act. Jacksonville City Council members and state representatives were in attendance and vowed to continue the fight to increase voter turn-out, education and knowledge of candidates for the November primaries.
