Local authoress Gracie Chandler recently celebrated the release of her first novel, Free to Be, with a book signing at the Historic Springfield Community Learning Center. The book gives the reader a fictionalized account of slaves in the South Carolina Sea Islands who live free during the Civil War, working for the Federal government.
