Activists in Ferguson, Mo., are looking for 250 college students to participate in a week of “community service and civic engagement” for Ferguson Alternative Spring Break. Volunteer initiatives include registering new voters, manning food banks, planting gardens and helping clean the streets.
The alternative spring break is running for five week-long sessions from March 7 to April 11. Registration opened on Feb. 6 and ends on Feb. 25. Students are asked to fund their own travel and pay $100, and will receive food, accommodations and transportation throughout the week.
The announcement of the alternative spring break comes six months after the death of Michael Brown on Aug. 9 in Ferguson, Mo.
