Eugene Butler Students Learn Benefits of Life Through Ballet

The Florida Ballet exposed 18 young men, who attend the Young Men’s Leadership Academy to the art of dance through, Breaking the Barrier: For Boyz Only, an educational and performance initiative. The free 16-week program is led by Eugene Butler Middle School alumnus, professional dancer and Florida Ballet instructor, Savery Morgan.  The goal of the programs is to create a greater appreciation for the art of dance while instilling in students a sense of achievement, confidence and social development.

Twice a week during school hours, boys in sixth and eighth grades receive dance instruction. The young men also understand that the lessons they’re learning in dance are applicable to other areas of their lives. “Although these are new dancers, they are extremely focused when it comes to performing the given steps with clarity and control, said Morgan. “This work ethic alone will take these young men very far.”

Last week the young men beamed with confidence as they performed in front of parents, family, friends, and the community and showcased what they learned over the course of the ballet outreach initiative.
