“Empire” is known for its dramatic twists – but the latest one has taken place off screen.
Stars Trai Byers and Grace Gealey are engaged after several months of dating, according to multiple outlets.
The actors met on the set of their hit TV show, with Gealey playing Anika, the former stepmother of Byers’ character Andre Lyons, one of the three sons gunning for his father’s titular music empire.
A rep for Byers declined to comment, while a rep for Gealey did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Byers, 33, is said to have popped the question to his girlfriend at her 31st birthday Sunday, according to Us Weekly.
“He popped the question and she was totally surprised and elated,” a source told the site. “She can’t stop looking at the ring! They celebrated all night.”
Byers gushed about his “Empire” co-star in an Instagram post about her birthday fete.
“Had so much fun celebrating@gracegealey’s life!! Happy Birthday to an exquisite human being!”
“UNFORGETTABLE night,” he added.
Byers and Gealey can be seen on season 2 of “Empire” when the show returns Sept. 23.
