Educator Lorraine Lee RetiresAfter Four Decades

The last day of school was bitter sweet for Duval County Public School teacher Lorraine Lee this year. Lee has been teaching for 43 years, with 31 years at Spring Park elementary on the Southside.

After saying “one more year, just one more year,” Lee has finally retired this year. Spring Park elementary staff and students held a retirement party at the school in her honor where friends and family members had the opportunity to laud her commitment and dedication to teaching elementary students.

Before arriving at Spring Park Elementary, Lee held brief teaching assignments in Germany, Texas and Illinois.

Lee remarked, “Since first grade, I always wanted to be a teacher. My teacher smiled at me and I thought she was so friendly.” She vowed to deliver that same warm smile to students as an educator given the chance.

Lee is the mother of four children and has eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Her retirement plans include traveling, gardening and volunteering in the community. Shown is Lee (center) being congratulated by friend Kelly Cross and son Jason Lee.
