Cotton Club Themed Gala Celebrates Harlem Nights Style and Ambiance

How do you spice up a holiday party? Create a theme that excites guests and adds a little additional flare to the season.  Last week, a local organization used the movie “Harlem Nights” to inspire and entertain attendees at their holiday party.

The 1989 crime comedy film written, executive produced and directed by Eddie Murphy, featured co-stars Richard Pryor and Red Fox and was a box office success.  The movie depicted the comedy dream team as 1930s club owners and numbers runners.

Taking a page out of the classic films script that featured legends of black comedy, the Vintage Fridays Holiday Gala was held at the XO lounge on the Southside.  Hundreds of guest arrived dressed in their best Harlem Nights apparel. The inaugural gala offered guests the opportunity to transport themselves into the selected theme’s nostalgic portal.

Vintage provides a mature party environment for individuals 30-plus to mingle, fellowship and meet new and old friends. The event included a best dressed contest and a raffle. DJ Q45 and local band, Groove Coalition, provided the sound and backdrop for the night. XO Lounge is owned by retired NFL player Laveranues Coles, and is open several nights a week.
