The 20th Annual National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame Induction (NHSACA) luncheon was held in Rochester, Minnesota to present awards to the 30 inductees that represented 17 states. Jacksonville’s own celebrated Coach James Day was one of the recipients. Although Coach Day was unable to attend the ceremony, former Minnesota Viking and 1971 Raines graduate Greg Coleman and protégé of Coach Day accepted the award on this behalf. Recipients received a ring shaped in the style of a NCAA/NFL championship ring, plaque and their name inscribed in the NHSACA Hall of Fame. Coach Day smiled, “the greatest award that any coach can get is to be inducted in the NHSACA Hall of Fame. Paraphrasing Martin Luther King, ‘you are at the mountaintop.’ You can’t go any further as a high school coach. I have to thank many people in Jax, State of Florida and the nation. I couldn’t have done it by myself.”
