Mathew Knowles is claiming Beyoncé and Jay Z’s divorce rumors are all a bid at getting more bills, bills, bills.
The superstar singer’s dad and former manager opened up about his daughter and son-in-law’s supposed marital woes on the “Roula and Ryan” Houston radio show on 104.1 KRBE earlier this week.
“It’s called a Jedi mind trick,” he said. “The Jedi mind trick fools you a lot of times.”
The 63-year-old mastermind behind successful girl group Destiny’s Child, for which Beyoncé was lead singer, hinted that controversies like the couple’s rumors of divorce help “to ignite that tour.”
Queen Bey and Hov’s sold out “On the Run” tour has proven to be extremely successful for the already worldwide-known musical duo.
Adding dissonance to their rather perfect love affair entices fans to see them on tour together in case this is the last of their romance.
“I know, because we’ve done this,” Knowles told Radar Online. “From experience, there’s a tour going on.”
The radio hosts asked about Knowles’ previous comments to Radar and asked whether the infamous elevator blowout between Jay and Beyoncé’s younger sister, Solange, at a Met Gala afterparty in May was also a publicity stunt.
“All I know is the Jedi mind trick,” he said coyly. “Everyone’s talking about it. Ticket sales went up. Solange’s album sales went up 200 percent!”
Talking about promotions, Knowles used the interview to push the notion about a possible Destiny’s Child reunion tour.
“Folks don’t know it, but I am still the manager of Destiny’s Child,” he said. “When you see Destiny’s Child on TV and you see them doing songs together slowly, slowly — now they’ve done two, they were recently on TV — I don’t know, it might be another Destiny’s Child album coming.”
Further building suspicion, Knowles added, “There might be this tour that makes history, Destiny’s Child featuring Beyoncé, Kelly and Michelle. Can you imagine what that would be like?”
Attempting to get through his cryptic comments, the Houston radio hosts asked Knowles to cough twice if this supposed historic tour will happen “in the next year.” He coughed right away.
His statements leave a lot of questions as to how and when this could actually go down. Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland appeared to be in her final stages of pregnancy as she looked on proudly during Beyonce’s nearly 16-minute MTV VMAs performance.
Meanwhile, Jay Z, with the couple’s 2-year-old daughter Blue Ivy in tow, took to the stage to present his wife with the Video Vanguard Award.
The image of the trio together on stage was beautiful, but left some wondering if this was once again a “Jedi mind trick.”
