BBQ Maven in Town to Encourage Seafood

SNP Ambassador and Celebrity Chef Gina Neely Promote National Seafood Month – The Seafood Nutrition Partnership (SNP) on Thursday, October 8th in Hemming Plaza launched a national three-year public health education campaign and white paper focused on solutions for incorporating more seafood into Americans’ diets to improve heart health. The health campaign was rolled out in Washington, D.C. and nine cities to coincide with National Seafood Month. US dietary guidelines recommend eating at least two servings of seafood per week, but a recent USDA study revealed only 10 percent of Americans follow the guideline. Joining the SNP in Hemming Plaza announcing the launch of the program was Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry and Gina Neely, SNP chef ambassador and Star of Food Network’s “Down Home With The Neelys”. After weighing 154 lbs or more for years, Neely decided she needed a change and began her exercise regimen with a trainer and recently lost over 25 lbs in a weight-loss challenge with the George Forman Brand. Neely is a native of Memphis, Tennessee and began her career in the corporate sector and met her former husband of 20 years in high school. Soon Neely began helping out in her husband’s family empire of  Wine & Spirit stores and restaurants. After producers traveled to Memphis searching for the next Food Network Star, Gina and Pat were ready to make their debut. Neely’s selfless personality was her ticket to the big time! Producers were impressed with Gina and eventually paired her with Paula Deen to produce a demo tape. Surprisingly the Food Network was impressed with the tape and Neely became a star! “I am excited to be the Ambassador for the Seafood Nutrition Partnership, right now I am focused on personal projects and thankful for where my career has taken me. Also, don’t forget eating seafood twice a week is good for your health!” said Gina.
