AKA Sorority Gamma Rho Omega Chapter United Nations 70th Anniversary Celebration

On Saturday October 25, 2015 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Gamma Rho Omega Chapter, Incorporated presented “The United Nations and Climate Change.”  The event was held at Jacksonville University at the Sam R. Marks Chapel.  The panel of  experts included Jeff Martin, Ph.D, Associated Professor of Geography, Jacksonville University; Margo Moehring, AICP, Director of Policy, Northeast Florida Regional Council and the Executive Director, Regional Community Institute of Northeast Florida, Inc,; Alan Mosley, JAXCHAMBER Vice President for Transportation, Energy and Infrastructure and the Executive Director of of the newly formed JAXALLIANCE, a business unity within JAXCHAMBER;  and Nancy Kilgo Veasey, Director of Government Relation for Jacksonville Electric Authority at the state and federal levels.  Discussions included The UN at 70 and Climate Change, The Physical Processes Driving Climate Change, and a Thinking Globally and Acting Locally: Jacksonville Leaders Respond to Climate Change Challenges.

Gamma Rho Omega Chapter Vice President, Ms. Willetta Richie provided the Greetings, and Chapter Member, The Honorable Joyce Morgan, Council Member District 1, read a Mayoral Proclamation on United Nations Day.  Sponsors included Jacksonville UNA-USA Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Gamma Rho Omega Chapter, Incorporated, The Omicron Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, and Jacksonville University Political Science Society.  The Global Impact Committee, chaired by Ms. Emily Gourdine and Ms. Shelly Thompson, had display tables and refreshments were served at the conclusion of the event.  The Chapter President is Mary Davis.
