Local Men Enlightened and Empowered at Free Conference

Jesus Gray CEO of Global Freight and Commerce leads a round table discussion on Entrepreneurship and Business Development

“It is easier to build strong boys then repair broken men,” by abolitionist Fredrick Douglas is a quote often used to describe the plight of black men in America. With nearly 90 homicides so far in Duval County this year with a majority of those being Black men, it is clear Jacksonville is a city in crisis.

In an effort to support local men to be positive influences in the community, the inaugural Empowerment Men’s Conference was held at the Bradham-Brooks library organized by local pastor Nashon Nicks.  For three full hours, over sixty men engaged in round table topics in 15 minute rotations dealing with subjects such as community development, banking, health, business development, building social equity and more. Each men left with certificates of completion. Inspired by the events success, Nicks has already slated the next one for October 2019.
