Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Beta Alpha Zeta Chapter Stork’s Nest of Jax Helping Babies Since 1972

The Beta Alpha Zeta chapter has operated the Stork’s Nest of Jacksonville since 1972. The Stork’s Nest is one of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., National Initiatives to prevent premature births in partnership with the March of Dimes, Inc. The prevention of premature birth, child welfare and early childhood education issues have always been a Beta Alpha Zeta chapter community concern for the last 75 years.

The Stork’s Nest received a Florida Kid Care Back to School Grant and has provided over 500 parents with information to secure low cost health insurance for their children. Florida Kid care provides health and dental insurance plans for low to moderate income families.  Some families may qualify for health insurance and pay less than 20.00 a month. Although there a many Federal Market Place options for health insurance, children under the age of 19 remain uninsured.

Recent Census information revealed that a bout 4.3 million children did not have any health insurance coverage in 2018, an increase of 425,000 (or 0.6 percentage points) from the previous year, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s annual Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2018 report.

Children obtain health insurance coverage from a number of different sources. Many have coverage through a parent’s private plan, and many lower income children may qualify for certain public programs, such as Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).( U.S. Census Bureau <census@subscriptions.census.gov

The Beta Alpha Zeta Stork’s Nest will continue to educate parents and concerned public groups about the benefits offered through Florida Kid Care insurance each fourth Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Stork’s Nest located at 3805 Moncrief Road West is open to educate pregnant mothers to prevent premature births and others seeking education and application assistance for Florida Kid Care insurance.  A 5.00 gift card is given to each parent for each child who signs up for the Florida Kid Care insurance while supplies last.
